Academic support

The Office for Student Success is a part of the Office of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. Academic support services are available to students, residents, fellows and faculty in all schools. There are no associated fees. The Office for Student Success provides oversight to the following support services: academic accommodations, academic consulting services, academic success kiosk, university tutoring services and writing support services.

Counseling services

The Medical Center sponsors a confidential mental health counseling service administered off campus. This service is available to all Medical Center students. There is no charge for the initial appointment and nominal charges for additional appointments.

Deans and /or their designees and other professional staff also are available to students for counseling services throughout the student's career.

Employee/Student Health Department

The Student/Employee Health Department provides ambulatory medical care and is located on the first floor of the University Hospital north wing in Room N136. Students may receive nursing care, first aid and over-the counter medications at SEH on an as-needed basis during hours of operation. Standard sick call hours are staffed by a nurse practitioner and/or a physician. Sick call hours are 8 a.m.-4:15 p.m. Monday-Friday, excluding UMMC holidays. To shorten your wait time, call (601) 984-1185 to make an appointment.

The Employee/Student Health Department does not provide medical care for dependents of students, nor can it reimburse students for treatment received elsewhere. Students are responsible for notifying the appropriate instructor or department when they are going to be absent due to illness.

Student Accounting is responsible for the assessment and collection of all charges to students, such as tuition and health insurance premiums, as well as disbursing excess financial aid proceeds to students.

Student Counseling and Wellness Center

The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) and the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior have opened a new center to promote the mental health and wellness of all UMMC students. Established in 2016, the Student Counseling and Wellness Center (H822) is available to all UMMC students to provide counseling and support services for a range of mental health concerns, including, but not limited to, depression, stress, anxiety, grief, adjustment issues and relationship problems. This service is free of charge and completely confidential.

The Student Counseling and Wellness Center is directed by Philip Merideth, MD and Danny Burgess, PhD. Days of service are Monday through Friday by appointment only. Call (601) 815-5588 to make an appointment.
